Angel Veza joined the Breakthrough New York family in December as the Middle
School Coordinator for the Manhattan site.
Upon joining the team, Angel was already well-acquainted with the Breakthrough
experience, as she was a Teaching Fellow for three summers in the San
Juan Capistrano and Hong Kong sites during college. After graduating from
Tufts University, she was the Admissions Coordinator at City on a Hill Charter
Public School in Boston. However, she wanted to return to the Breakthrough
“I love the students,” she says. “I believe all students should have access to the
tools and resources they need to be successful for college and beyond. Here at
Breakthrough, we provide that accessibility.”
She pursued Breakthrough New York because, she points out, it’s a unique site.
“Breakthrough New York is an independent non-profit, which allows for more
flexibility, creativity and opportunities. We're able to grow our staff and support
our students not only through middle school but through high school,” she says.
A native from Kentucky, she’s the first in her family to pursue this career track,
and in her free time enjoys choreographing fights and movement for theater and
performing contemporary dance.
